Golf Course Information
Description
Chicagoland golfers have long appreciated the memorable designs of the Classic 18 and East 9 courses created by Edward Dearie, a protégé of the famous architect Donald Ross. But the transition into a "Modern Classic" came in 2006 and 2007 with a course restoration of the Classic 18 by Jacobson Golf Course Design, Inc., a locally based international corporation.
The Classic 18 course renovation was voted one of the top five renovations of the year for 2007, brought sparkling new greens and tees to Sportsman's that are challengingly separated by strategically placed sand bunkers...some new, some renovated but all requiring a serious game plan.
Because the tee boxes have been thoughtfully located, Sportsman's Country Club remains a great attraction for golfers of every skill level. Many tournaments, both professional and amateur; outings, both large and small; permanent weekend tee times; and annually contracted leagues call this home. Looking to the future of our youth, junior programs formulated by the Northbrook Golf Academy, are often front runner programs, from a variety of tournaments to beginner programs appropriately entitled "Future Stars".
As an accomplished and successful arm of the Northbrook Park District, the Golf Operations Staff subscribe to community values and family themes. Maybe our greatest achievement is a vision of focusing on the family nature of golf. Our teams of golf professionals and course maintenance supervisors have even established "Family Tees" on our East 9 Course, structured and designed to enhance the fun of playing together as a family unit.
Our practice range facility is open from early morning until late at night in season; a popular miniature golf course for kids of all ages; Anetsberger Golf Course short course; and the Northbrook Golf Academy round out to make Sportsman's Country Club a truly comprehensive golf complex for everyone and every game. Give us a call and we'll tell you how we can meet your golfing needs from instruction programs to tournaments, outings and spur of the moment tee times.
